Trompe d'Oeil

This Trompe d'Oeil is on the end of a very ordinary looking house in Prestwick.

Ooooooooops!

This statue is supposed to be of William Wallace. Unfortunately someone didn't get their measurements correct and the original statue was somewhat taller than the niche into which it had to fit. The legs are now somewhat shorter than appropriate for the rest of the body!

Further North

Apologies for the slight gap in postings, but I've been up a bit further north over the weekend.

Here is one of the photos from my trip - instantly recogniseable to those who have seen it before, but for the others it is Buachaille Etive Mor at the southern end of Glencoe.

You'll find other pictures on Flickr as usual.

Ship on the Horizon

I took this yesterday - a ship on the horizon highlighted by the setting sun.

Marrbury Smokehouse

OK, it's one of the + photographs as it was taken at the Marrbury Smokehouse Shop at Carsluith Castle in Dumfries and Galloway.

This is the source of absolutely the best smoked product you can buy - the salmon especially, but the rest of what they sell is superb quality.

You also should eat there. I had Ruby's seafood chowder for lunch - to die for!

Better days

Since the weather has been fairly abysmal over the past few days and I've had some difficulty in taking photographs, I thought I'd post one from earlier in the year. This was taken in much better weather at Crossraguel Abbey.

Modern 'Attraction"

One of the newer Ayrshire 'Attractions" is the Average Speed Camera. Whilst this initiative has almost certainly cut the total average speed over the distance they cover, it is quite easy to spot the people who don't pass through 2 of the cameras on their route - they are the ones who fly past everyone else.

First Snow

This is the first snow that has fallen this winter on the peaks of Arran.

No photo, but .....

I came across this post card, sent in the late 1890s/early 1900s, of a Glasgow building long since vanished. I do remember seeing it, not greatly different from those days, in the 1950s.

Even wetter feet

If you refer back to my previous picture of these stepping stones, you'll see what a difference a week of rain makes!

Prestwick Mercat Cross

Prestwick's Mercat Cross, which signified that it was a burgh which was legally allowed to hold markets, has been located in several different places in the Town. With a bit of luck, it will stay here for a good while.

Now you see it......

This was the site of Monkton Station and Goods Yard. No trace of it remains.

Loudoun Hall

The damp picture for today is of Loudoun Hall, a late 15th / early 16th Century Town House. The building was restored in the mid 1900s and is used as a meeting place by some of the 'Arts' Societies in Ayr.

Dunure again

A very pretty village in bright sunshine, but more dramatic in this sort of weather.

Autumn again

I'm afraid the weather beat me again today, so here is a photo from a few days back taken in the Rozelle woods.

Dunure again

The weather today has been so awful that I didn't take any photographs.

So here is one from two days ago of Dunure Castle

The Autumn leaves .....

The leaves in Rozelle Park in Ayr today were a sight to behold.

Another Evening Photo

Another evening photograph for you, this time of the Old Bridge in Ayr. This is just upstream from the New Bridge which, as you might guess, isn't that new.

St John's Tower by Night

I published a photo of the tower during the day on the 15th August and I thought you might like the contrast of a night shot. It is from a different view-point, not quite 180 degrees.

Glasgow Inhabitant

I'm sure Carol will forgive me showing a Glasgow photo taken in Kelvingrove Park.

Ayrshire Vista

I realised I had shown only the seascapes, cloudscapes or individual locations so far. The above is an inland view taken from between Ayr and Maybole looking South-East.

Culzean Inhabitant

I thought of giving Chris another view of Arran, this time from Culzean Estate, but decided you might like this close-up instead. This one was in the process of scratching its beak.

Oh, all right, here's the Arran one as well!

Greenan Castle

Greenan Castle was built in the 15th century on the site of an ancient iron age fort.
Some research indicated that the original fort may well have been an Arthurian stronghold and one of the possible sites of Camelot.

Arthur did get around, didn't he!!

Just for Chris, here is another view of Arran, this time from the beach at Greenan Castle.

Amazing Arran Again

I had intended to post a photo from Glasgow since I was visiting there (by bus) today. However, when I got back to Ayr and went down to the shore to collect my car, this vista met my eyes. To good to miss!

And just to go one better [I know you shouldn't start a sentence with and!] here's a photo from the same spot looking south-west.
