Dear Honest Man,

Was Rabbie's father originally interred with this stone and are there more inscriptions on the back or below the gravestone?
Wonderful to discover your site on google alert news items on robert Burns

great work and thank you for sharing it.

Re being interred with this stone, I have to confess that I don't know. My guess would be not since the stone is "Sacred to the memory of".

The reverse of the stone has a Burns Poem inscribed -
For the Author's Father

O YE, whose cheek the tear of pity stains,
Draw near with pious reverence and attend.
Here lie the loving husband's dear remains,
The tender father, and the generous friend:
The pitying heart that felt for human woe,
The dauntless heart that fear'd no human pride,
The friend of man. to vice alone a foe,
"For ev'n his failings lean'd to virtue's side."

The grave slab in front of this stone is not very decipherable, especially in the cold and wet as it was today, but it looks like some of his family are marked on it.

In due course I'll publish all my Burns related photographs on my Flickr account under a 'Burns related' set.
