River Ayr

I took this photograph in downtown Ayr, just to demonstrate how strong the water flow in the river could be. I'm not sure just how far down the river this tree has come, but it has taken a considerable volume of water moving at a fair speed to move it.

Two scenes in one on this photo.

The background is the flying roof of Ayr College. I must admit I'm quite taken with this design, but I know that not everybody likes it.



The foreground shows the work being done to rebuild/repair the weir which used to serve one of the mills which lined the river in days gone bye. They did the one half and are now working on the other, but the number of times the shuttering which is holding back the water has collapsed under the strain is quite something!

Water, water

Today's pictures show the after-effects of the rain we've been having. They were taken at the River Ayr, just above the Bypass, where there are stepping stones from one bank to the other.

The first shows the 'weir' effect that the stepping stones have, whilst the second is a close shot of the back-current caused when the water reaches it's lower level.




Don't think I'll go paddling today!

River Ayr

One of the more pleasant aspects of living in Ayrshire is the number of views of the many rivers which it affords.

Today I was on Oswald's bridge at Auchincruive overlooking the River Ayr.

The first photograph is taken upstream - roughly eastwards - ..........


....... and the second downstream - roughly westwards.



I hadn't realised there were folk enjoying the river when I took the shot!

Failford Gorge

These two photographs were taken from the bottom of the sandstone steps in the side of the river Ayr gorge at Failford.

The right photograph is looking down-river, the left one looking up-river.
