Old v New

Went out for lunch today to the Alloway Inn, which used to be the Ivy House, which used to be the North Park House Hotel. The first photograph shows it from a distance over the allotments. This is the new, since the building was put up about 10 years ago.

At a slightly different angle over the same allotments, we see Bellisle Hotel, which started life as Bellisle House in the early 1800s. This is the old.

I thought I'd give you a slightly closer view of Alloway Inn.

I have heard of the allotments before because of my blogfriend Ruth in England! I do believe they have gardens in the cities here, called community gardens. That is such a grand idea, because I have friends in NYC who nevre left the city much and have NO idea about how things grow. Hard to believe...

I looked up "Bellisle" and found it spelled with an "e", as in Belleisle. The info said there are actually woodcarvings there of songs and poetry written by Robert Burns! How cool is that? Hmmm...would make an interesting picture!

The Alloway Inn doesn't look all that new! Wow! It looks like a beautiful place! And, pray tell....what type of fare didst thou partake? Please, don't say HAGGIS!!!!

Katya is right.. we have community gardens here in the States and they can be found in the strangest places from abandon lots in the city to a side yard in retirement developments. Even in nursing homes most have an area where some of the residents can grow flowers and vegetables in wheelchair height containers.
The Inn is beautiful.. ahhh one day I'll make it to Scotland.

I had grilled three fish - Salmon, Cod and can't remember topped by garlic prawns, followed by a pavlova.

Katya, it is Belleisle, am sure it was simply a typo from an Honest Man......Was in The Ivy House once but couldn't afford to go back. Not yet been in The Alloway Inn but if you go to www.costley-hotels.co.uk you will see all the other establishments owned by this Ayrshire family.
